We are Mothers and Fathers, Sons and Daughters and all carry the same worries in regard to the safety of our loved ones. We make the safety of these loved ones our number one priority and continuously seek ways to improve our products and services, to better serve our communities. In short, we observe problems from all angles and fabricate effective solutions.
Our philosophy is to always place integrity at the fore front of everything we do and conduct ourselves as Silent Professionals. We do not brag about success or capabilities and do not give the bad guys the advantage of being able to research our systems on social media and facilitate a plan to defeat or circumvent them. You will never find a member of the Diamond Defense family “Fear Mongering” or operating in a manner that places profit over performance. We always work closely with the Law Enforcement Community and will continue to be 100% transparent in regard to product expectations and performance.
Diamond Defense is actively working with members of the Local, State and Federal Government to encourage the formation of a regulatory authority, tasked with evaluating and certifying school security products and penalizing companies that present false claims.
Diamond Defense LLC is a Defense Service Provider that specializes in Facility Hardening and Ballistic Fabrication. Our staff includes, but is not limited to, experts in the areas of Facility Security, Ballistics and Explosives, Engineering and Fabrication. Partnering with Indian River State College in Florida has provided us with access to top class Engineers, Physicists and other like-minded businesses, to name just a few. This allows Diamond Defense to continuously enhance our Facility Hardening capabilities through the use of up-to-date scientific research and emerging technologies.
These resources have allowed our team to develop the Ballistic Assault Barrier System™ (B.A.B.S.) - a patent pending, optically clear, modular system that is attached to existing glass and is designed to delay forced entry from exterior assault. This technology has also allowed us to create complete ballistic transaction window systems, which are easily installed and provide unapparelled ballistic protection, while maintaining the desired aesthetics. These, coupled with our ballistic door systems and wall panels, are being installed in schools and businesses across the nation and provide a complete barrier system against active assailant threats.
The B.A.B.S.™ is a combination of several components arranged in a specific order, which work in conjunction to produce a complete system that is designed to delay forced entry and provide a degree of ballistic protection. The system has been and continues to be rigorously tested by our in-house R&D Team, as well as credible third-party ballistic laboratories and currently is certified at UL 752 Level II on ¼” glass and holds a Level VIII rating on the ASTM F3561-22 Forced-Entry-Resistance of Fenestration Systems After Simulated Active Shooter Attack test. The ballistic rating can be increased depending on the thickness and construction of glass panels.
The science behind the ballistic success of the system is based upon Sir Isaac Newton’s 2nd Law regarding impulse theory. The system uses a proprietary Air-Gap technology along with overall flexible resistance to redirect the kinetic energy caused by a ballistic projectile, taking the forward momentum and transversally dispersing the energy throughout the Air-Gap, effectively denying projectile penetration. The design and installation of the system provides unidirectional protection, which affords the tactical benefit of being able to be penetrated from the protected side, while still providing threat protection. In layman’s terms, threats can be actively engaged from the protected side of the system, while the system remains intact and provides continued ballistic protection from the threat side.
A common misconception is that our product is a security window film. While security film is a component of the B.A.B.S.™, there are currently no security window films, when applied as the manufacturer intended, that can stop bullets. An interesting article was recently published in the Wall Street Journal that addresses this topic (Link Below). The Ballistic Assault Barrier is a complete system that uses science to support the results and does not rely on any one component to provide effective results.
A thin layer of Security Window Film is applied to both the interior and exterior sides of the glass. The window film acts only as a sacrificial layer, designed to reinforce and keep the glass intact when it’s damaged by impact. Diamond Defense has chosen to partner with 3M, as their security window film is considered a credible and recognized standard film being installed in most schools and municipal buildings to protect against forced entry. This partnership also allows existing 3M customers a significant cost savings by being able to upgrade to the Ballistic Assault Barrier System, while maintaining the original manufactures warranty and decreasing the installation time.
A sheet of optically clear, UV protected, scratch resistant, UL rated ballistic polycarbonate is custom cut to fit each individual window, frame to frame. This panel is affixed to the existing glass using a Diamond Defense proprietary ultra-high bonding adhesive. This multi-faceted adhesive provides an airtight seal around the edge of the glass and polycarbonate, while simultaneously creating a “Patent Pending” Air-Gap between the two surfaces. The system is then attached to the window framework by a layer of 3M Impact Protection Attachment (IPA) or DowSil 995 Structural Sealant. This industrial sealant is silicone based and the nature of the application allows the entire system to expand and contract upon impact, effectively redirecting the kinetic energy created by the impacts.
The above picture shows the assailant of the Nashville School Shooting entering the school, after shooting out the glass doors. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, as the majority of assailants looking to gain entry into a locked structure, will identify and attack the glass as a known weak point for ease of entry. Imagine in this scenario, the assailant attacked the glass and it did not collapse, effectively delaying immediate entry. Notice I did not reference our system, as even a security film with proper anchoring would temporarily keep the glass in the frame, effectively slowing down assailants' entry and in turn buying precious time. This would flip the script on the assailant and eliminate their strongest advantage, the element of surprise. After the first shot fired does not grant access, their initial plan has failed and the assailant now knows their time is limited. Fight or Flight responses kick in and they have to decide to press the assault in the hopes of salvaging their plan or attempt to retreat. Simultaneously, active assailant protocols go into effect, children and staff are moved away from the threat area, while first responders move towards the threat from all directions, potentially limiting the loss of life.
In conclusion, any protection is better than no protection and taking a proactive approach could provide the minutes that save lives. The Diamond Defense Ballistic Assault Barrier System™ was developed to be a superior means of delaying forced entry and giving our first responders the tactical advantage and our loved ones a fair chance at survival.
